Lentswe, Tigane - The City of Matlosana Municipality urges residents to refrain from throwing waste and other objects into the sewer system. This comes as the municipality embarks on a mission to unblock and clear clogged sewer lines in Tigane and Alabama.
Throwing waste and other objects into the sewer system can have severe consequences, including:
1. Health Risks: Blocked sewer lines can lead to the spread of diseases, as sewage can overflow into homes and streets.
2. Environmental Damage: Sewage spills can contaminate water sources, soil, and air, causing long-term environmental damage.
3. Property Damage: Blocked sewer lines can cause sewage backups into homes and businesses, resulting in costly property damage.
4. Increased Maintenance Costs: The municipality spends a significant amount on clearing blocked sewer lines, which could be avoided if residents disposed of waste properly.
5. Disruption of Essential Services: Blocked sewer lines can disrupt essential services, including water supply and sanitation.
“We urge all residents to take responsibility for their actions and refrain from throwing waste and other objects into the sewer system,” said the Executive Mayor of the City of Matlosana, Cllr Fikile Mahlophe. “By working together, we can prevent the blocking of sewer pipelines and maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment for all.”
Residents are encouraged to report any incidents of blocked sewer lines or sewage spills to the municipality during working hours on 018 487 8611/ 8524 and after hours on 018 462 2222.
