Lentswe, Jouberton - A 40-year-old mother is still unconscious in hospital after her roommate discovered her lifeless body in the hostel room they shared. Her three year old daughter who was also in the room, was dead. Lt Col Amanda Funani, police spokesperson, said speculation that the mother and child ingested poison is at this stage premature.
“We can’t confirm that poison was the cause of the child’s death. That would only be determined by the result of the post-mortem. We are waiting for the mother to wake-up to get a statement.’’
Lentswe was told that the little girl was foaming at her mouth. She was not breathing when police arrived at the room in Ext 1 on Friday October 13.
The roommate called the police when she returned from the shop and found the mother and child unresponsive.
“The roommate was shocked and said she did not suspect suicide because they were very happy,’’ Funani said.
The police are investigating.
