Lentswe, Stilfontein - A group of men, allegedly illegal miners, were detained when they attempted to steal internet cables. According to Cllr Pieter du Preez, a local private investigator confronted the group of Basothos overnight at the intersection of Stilfontein Road and Breede Street, and action was taken early Wednesday morning, November 5.
The group tried to steal cables underground after fibre has been installed and the cables were no longer in use. The copper thieves were arrested at around 03:00, while others fled.

“The police intercepted the vehicle of those who tried to escape on the N12.”

According to Du Preez, Stilfontein Road was reopened for traffic at around 12:00.

Lentswe approached the police for more information, but no response was received by deadline.
