Lentswe, Klerksdorp - In a bid to improve and advance men’s overall health, the North West Department of Health in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District has a plan in place to cover the influx of numbers of walk-in clients visiting different facilities in the district for Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) services.
After various oversight visits by the district office, the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District has identified areas where an intensified programme has been put in place to increase capacity and ensure the majority of clients are covered during the winter school holiday.
Dr Lesley Mahole, the Dr KK District Family Physician, has confirmed that the District Office will put together a team of physicians to help push the programme to make sure that no clients are left behind during this season as a result of the influx. “After identifying the need, the district will put together a team of Physicians for each sub district to deal with the influx,” he said.
The district is working together with Right To Care, a non-governmental organisation that is contracted to help the department with the VMMC service.
The VMMC main campaign by the district will be conducted as follows:
Tshepong Hospital – July 2
JB Marks CHC – July 3
Bophelo Clinic – July 4
Apart from the mentioned schedule, facilities in the district remain open every day to take appointments and consent forms for parents interested in the service. Dr Mahole has also encouraged traditional initiation school leaders to ensure that initiates are screened for different diseases before and after initiation to prevent and control certain pre-existing illnesses that they might have. “The department puts forward the wellbeing of initiates and would like to screen initiates without interference to traditional processes,” he said.
