Lentswe, Maquassi Hills - As nations of the world continue to celebrate the Annual Mandela Day, the North West Legislature arm led by the chief whip, Motlalepule Rhosho, held celebratory event near the Uniting church in Kgakala, Leeudoringstad. The purpose of the event was to celebrate the legacy left behind by the former statesman, Nelson Mandela.

The event was graced by Maquassi Hills Local Municipality’s Speaker, Alderman Sarah Nkatlo, the municipal manager, Thulisile Mbonani, Ward 7 Councillor, Dilolo Rampai, SAPS and Serame Tabile from Social Development .

The two elderly organisations that were invited, Sizanani Old Age and Fitness Centre as well as Itireleng Service Club, were gifted with blankets before dignitaries used the symbolic 67 minutes to paint the Itireleng Centre.

“We are here to spend time with you, to eat with you and most importantly, to celebrate the life and times of Nelson Mandela,” said Rhosho.

Meanwhile, the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality’s library section also weighed in on the celebratory events by hosting an event at the local hall and the two above-mentioned elderly organisations were invited.

Clothes were later donated to the vulnerable children housed by the Kgakala One-Stop centre before the main event, which included speeches and a variety of entertainment acts, continued.

The motivation for the day was done by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality’s single whip, Jeffrey Letsie, who used Madiba’s quote: “It always seem impossible until it’s done,” to set the tone for a brief Mandela legacy lecture.
