Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Two teachers from Jouberton won major awards at the National Teaching Awards last weekend. Both drove away with brand new cars! The two teachers are from Chris Hani Secondary and Are-Itshokeng Primary School respectively and both are over the moon. Jacob Mthimkhulu, an educator at Chris Hani Secondary in Jouberton, won the category excellence in teaching at a secondary school. 

The prize-giving was on World Teachers Day (October 5). He won a new car, a mobile library for the school, a trip overseas, cash, laptop, phone and other vouchers.

Nthabiseng Mavis Mateba from Are-Itshokeng Primary School in Jouberton Ext 7 won the category of excellence in teaching Life Skills in primary school. 

The occasion at the Birchwood Hotel was graced by the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of Education Siviwe Gwarube, Deputy Minister Dr Regina Mhaule and the premier of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi. 

The awards are a testament of the teacher’s hard work and commitment to improving the quality of education in our nation. 

They serve as a recognition and encouragement of the teachers who have shown exceptional resilience and dedication in shaping the future of our learners.
