Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Two NW policemen are bursting with pride and they can claim the titles of being the best in the country! The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena expressed his gratitude to all nominees who made the province proud during the 9 th National Excellence Awards held in Midrand on Friday February 16. The awards were held to reward members who excelled and went beyond the call of duty in the financial year 2022/2023.

North West was well represented in different categories by 15 finalists who gallantly competed with their equally hard working, excellent and innovative counterparts from provinces and Head Office divisions.

Regardless of the solid competition in all categories, Lt-Col Otukile Mopedi and R/Const Steve Makabe came back as winners in the categories Visible Policing & Operations and Reservist of the year respectively. The Province further secured six 1 st Runners-up and seven 2 nd Runners-up positions.

Mopedi is part of the K9 team in Potchefstroom.

The team is responsible for 215 arrests, attended to 1 021 complaints, and recovered more than 10 tonnes of dagga.

Makabe, of Mahikeng, arrested suspects in 34 cases. He is very diligent and offers his support at ATM’s to give criminals the boot at month-end.
