Lentswe, Jouberton - A parolee was arrested for the rape and murder of the 26-year-old Mapule Motlhaoleng in ext 11 the night of September 16.
Mapule survived the attack on her where her brutalised body was set alight by her rapist but she eventually succumbed to her injuries on October 30. She was laid to rest on November 4.
Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, confirmed that a case of murder was added to the charge sheet of the man who accompanied the friendly Mapule to the tavern on that fateful night. Mapule was a popular girl and did not think it strange that the friendly man who lives in the same street as her walk with her to the tavern.
“He fell behind her, and when they were alone, dragged her into the bush where she was raped and assaulted. The victim lost consciousness when he strangled her and left her for dead. She also had burn wound on her chest,’’ Col Myburg said.
Mapule was admitted to hospital where she later identified her attacker. Turned out that he was out on parole for murder. The 30-year-old man was arrested and sent back to jail. He was charged with attempted murder but this will be changed to murder at his next court appearance.
In another separate incident on Sunday night November 19, a 17-year-old girl was raped by her uncle. According to Capt Aafje Botma, police spokersperson, they were alone at home when the much older man accosted her with a knife and forced her to undress. He raped her. “She managed to escape to her neighbours where she received help. The man was arrested.’’
Lentswe was told that the rapist is also a parolee. This could however not be confirmed before his court appearance on Wednesday November 22.
