Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Daily sewer spills in every town and township in the Kosh Area are a health hazards for the community and create irreversible damage to the environment. Lentswe is sent videos daily of sewer spills of which some have been ongoing for weeks with nothing being done. Orkney’s Sheridan Street sewer spill is a disaster for people living in the area, and despite sporadic work being done at the drain, the sewage problem there has been continuing for years now.
In Kanana, Lucia Bojosi, has asked Lentswe for help regarding a sewer problem in Lerato Street, Ext 3.
“Sewer has been running through our yards continuously. We have reported the matter to the relevant department at municipality numerous times, with no assistance.
“I personally contacted the councilor for Ward 25,still no help. You are my last resort, I have exhausted all options, I’m not getting any help.’’
In ward 39 in Klerksdorp, Cllr Inge Wilken, issued a statement this week saying her ward is plagued with between five and eight spills occurring every day. “This is not an isolated issue. Communities across Greater Matlosana are suffering the same neglect. Despite numerous complaints, council telephone lines often go unanswered, forcing residents to call multiple times before incidents are logged.
“Operational teams are stretched to breaking point, facing a chronic shortage of working vehicles and basic tools. Repairs are often temporary, with the same overflows recurring at the exact same locations,’’ she said.
Cllr Wilken said the DA is intensifying its efforts to hold the municipality accountable and demand immediate action. “Ward 39, and the broader Matlosana area, cannot continue to function under these conditions. Our residents have waited long enough for relief.’’
