Lentswe, Stilfontein - Mosimanegape Vincent Lekaota (31) was remanded in custody after appearing in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court last week for possession of suspected stolen livestock. He appeared in court on Thursday January 25 and was expected to apply for bail this week.

According to Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, Lekaota was arrested after members of Stilfontein Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STES) operationalised information regarding cattle, which were stolen in the vicinity of Schweizer-Reneke, and were in transit to Gauteng for auction.

“SAPS stopped the truck with 23 cattle worth R194 000 on the road between Dominionville and Hartbeesfontein. The police established during inspection that the cattle were recently brand marked with a brand mark registered under the name of the truck’s passenger. Further probe resulted in the positive identification of the rightful owner in Schweizer-Reneke. Thus, the passenger of the truck was arrested.”
