Lentswe, Potchefstroom - A Klerksdorp man was arrested in Collerville last week for possession of a suspected stolen Chevrolet Aveo. Hugo Stevenson (49) appeared in court after his arrest on July 23. According to Lt Col Amanda Funani, police spokesperson, the vehicle was reported stolen in June last year. “Detectives from different vehicle crime investigation units conducted an operation last week which led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of five vehicles.’’

In Stilfontein, Nadjibo Bugimirabagabo (44) and Elvis Emanuel were arrested for truck hijacking and kidnapping committed on the N12 near Stilfontein earlier this month. The truck was recovered with the groceries that was allegedly stolen. The accused appeared in court on Thursday July 25.

They will remain in custody until Thursday August 1 for a bail application.

In another separate case in Klerksdorp, Rapuseletso Leepile (45) appeared in court on Thursday July 254 for perjury. “He was charged after Leepile allegedly opened a false case earlier this month that his Ford Fiesta was hijacked. The matter against him was postponed  until Tuesday August 6 for further investigation. The vehicle is linked to a business robbery allegedly committed in Orkney earlier this month,’’ Funani said.

The operation also resulted in the confiscation of Toyota Etios and Nissan NP 200 vehicles, which were found abandoned near a mall in Jouberton. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicles’ engines were tampered with.

In addition, the Toyota Etios was linked with theft of motor vehicle case reported in February 2023, in Roodepoort.
