Lentswe, Klerksdorp - An intelligence driven operation led police members to a house in Kanana last week, where two hunting rifles, a pistol and ammunition were seized. According to Capt Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson, two suspects (aged 24 and 42) were arrested for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition on July 24.
On the same day, members of Vala Umgodi led by Capt Mbulelo Peyi and mine security were busy with crime prevention at Kopanong hostel and Kopanong shaft 9 mine premises when they arrested a 38-year-old mine employee with dagga weighing 5 kg, three packets of Best Blend Tobacco and 2kg Omo washing powder.
The haul was meant for illegal miners.
He is facing possession of dagga and Contravention of Mine Health and Safety Act.
These suspects were scheduled to appear in the Viljoenskroon and Orkney Magistrate Courts respectively on Monday July 29.
