Lentswe, Klerksdorp Mamokete Fuma (17), a disabled teenager living in extreme discomfort due to never being able to get a suitable wheelchair suiting her disability, received a brand new wheelchair last week. Matlosana Mayor Fikile Mahlophe handed the wheelchair to her on Wednesday November 6. This comes after a visit to the Buffelsdoorn farm and surrounding areas on November 1 as part of the Thuntsa Lerole programme, an event with the purpose of bringing services to the people.
One of the residents in that area who attended the event raised the issue of her disabled child’s struggles.
The Transversal unit at the Mayor’s office under the Disability and Elderly desk led by Dito Maine received the request from the mother for assistance.
The event was attended by all departments of the local and District Municipalities including government sector departments such as Health, Agriculture and Rural Development, the Aurum Institute, Social Development, SASSA and the Office of the Premier.
