Resego Lekgema was rescued from a house fire, and more than half of her small body was badly burnt leaving her fighting for her life for months in the specialised paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Netcare Waterfall City Hospital.
Whooping cough outbreak hits SA
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - An alarming outbreak of whooping cough (pertussis), a highly contagious respiratory infection, is rising globally, including in South Africa. According to the latest surveillance report from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), South Africa had fifty confirmed cases of whooping cough in January 2024. To combat this outbreak, Dis-Chem is urging the public to take immediate action and prioritise vaccination.
Gang war: Death toll rises, SAPS arrest 8
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Gang wars in Jouberton are at breaking point where three residents died in recent clashes. According to Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, in a bid to effectively deal with gangsterism, eight accused persons were remanded in custody when they appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on April 24. They were charged with three counts of murder and two of attempted murder.
Posters on Eskom structures is illegal
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - While South Africa is preparing for elections in May 2024 in less than a month, political parties are putting up election posters as part of their campaigns. In the past, there have unfortunately been incidents where persons have been electrocuted or shocked when putting up these posters. Eskom cautioned political parties against the dangerous practice of placing campaign posters on electrical structures. This includes electricity poles, electricity towers, meter boxes and mini substations.
Petrol price up, but diesel cheaper
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has published the official fuel price adjustments for South Africa in May, showing that all grades of petrol became more expensive on Workers Day. The price of petrol increased by 37c per litre, while diesel dropped by as much as 36c per litre.
