Lentswe, Klerksdorp - An aspiring professional football player from Klerksdorp was offered a scholarship opportunity to join the Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut, USA.
The bursary consists of an academic and soccer bursary. Lebohang MR Mathikga (18) has his heart set on joining the US school. He played from THS Klerksdorp from 2019 until 2022 and then went on to play in the United Kingdom. More recently he trained with the pro club Al Nasr SC in Dubai.
The financial aid package provided by the school amounts to more than R1 million but the young man still needs about R175 000 to cover the costs of extras that includes uniforms and health insurance.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The police in Mabeskraal request the community’s assistance in locating a 30-year-old, Kgomotso Johanna Maema. She was last seen by her sister on September 5. She is short, only 1.3m tall, weighs about 50 kg and has a speech impairment (talks very slowly). She has a scar on the back of her head (left side). “Extensive investigations were done and all leads were followed up with no success. It is unknown what she was wearing at the time of her disappearance. She has black, short, curly hair and black eyes,” said Colonel Adéle Myburgh, police spokesperson. Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Didintle Mongale (23) was born and raised at Tlakgameng Village. She is a Miss North West Exclusive semi-finalist.
Her journey with Miss North West Exclusive has helped her with confidence.
“I have self-developed so much along the journey. The competition has played a good role in my life, I started being confident in myself when I lacked confidence and started believing in myself when I had no one to believe in me,” she said.
Foreigners behind bars
Lentswe, Orkney - Two Lesotho nationals were caught in Kanana and appeared in the local magistrate’s court for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Tshotleko Ranko (24) and Thabo Mothai (22) were remanded in custody on Monday January 8.“The accused appeared in court following their arrest by members of Stilfontein Public Order Police (POP) on January 6.
Heavy rain flood local roads
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - It’s been a wet New Year thus far.
This week’s heavy downpours in the Kosh Area have flooded roads and opened up potholes making driving in these circumstances very difficult. On Wednesday January 10, the Leemhuis Street extension at Ysterspruit was flooded due to heavy downpours from the previous day.
