The tournament consisted of two sections (A and B) and prizes included medals, trophies, and chess sets. The A section winner is Tlhaloso Lesane, Ncobeni Kenani was second and Uzuchuku Ogbonna third. The best women’s player is Precious Lekgowe. Olebogeng Modise won the B section, followed by Thabile Sefadi, and Ontlametse Segosapelo third. Rorisang Matlabe was the women’s player.
The institute would like to thank Tiragalo Secondary for hosting and participating in the tournament, Gontse Primary from Wolmaransstad, Thusang Primary from Leeudoringstad, and Thamagane Primary from Bloemhof and Lekwa - Teemane sports service point.
They also thank Coach Gaobusi for bringing his young players to the tournament. Tshimega Chess Institute does not only focus on playing chess, they are invested in the children’s education and well-being, which is why the organization has partnered with the Wolmaransstad library to develop educational programs and educational prizes for young chess players.
They are concerned about the lack of support from schools in Maquassi Hills to partake in chess tournaments, as most of the local schools are not interested and are not supporting learners that are playing chess. They also hope that the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Chess Federation would host some of their annual chess tournaments in Maquassi Hills because most of the chess players cannot afford transport costs to attend Dr Kenneth Kaunda rated chess tournaments in Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom.
