Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Klerksdorp wrestling club earned several medals at the South African under 20 and Senior Championships held in Brakpan over the weekend of June 28-29.

Tanki Tau defended his Greco Roman title totaling his gold medals to five and his Freestyle gold remained at six. Unfortunately, he could not repeat his Freestyle gold in the higher weight category in which he obtained a silver medal this time round.

Newcomer RJ Janse van Rensburg in the 92 kg weight division did exceptionally well in obtaining a silver medal in the Greco Roman style and a bronze in the Freestyle senior divisions. Another newcomer to the senior division is Lesedi Mongale who wrestled both under 20 years and senior. He obtained a silver medal in the under 20 division and a bronze in the senior division in the Greco roman categories. During his career as a junior, he obtained four gold and two silver SA medals in Greco Roman and Freestyle.

Klerksdorp club is expanding at a rapid pace, gaining momentum with wrestlers from the age of 5 years to unlimited ages. The club has recently been renovated and is looking forward to expanding. “Wrestling adds value to all other sporting codes. It teaches discipline and develops the body and mind. It adds confidence and applies a sporting mentality to develop young children,’’ says coach Jannie Taljard.
