Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The Orkney & Klerksdorp Animal Shelter is flooded - the fifth flooding for 2025. “Last week, we lost our bakkie on top of this. It is nonstop and just more issues and problems on top of everything else,” said Diane Jacobs of the shelter. The shelter needed to close for a few days because they could not accommodate more animals or help animals in needs as they do not have transport.
For the animals currently in their care, she appeals for any donation for food and blankets and any help.
“The animals are still okay, very wet and some in water. We are just trying to get over the next few days and hope the weather does clear up later this week. We are not going to survive much longer if this continues.”
According to her, boundary walls are busy moving and they have lost slabs in back wall as water pushes through to run to the spruit. Spruit and road is one area at the moment. So naturally the shelter is still closed to public and this also affects them deeply as they can’t get the dogs adopted.
They have drop-off points for food and blankets and said DO NOT try and bring to shelter at this time.
