Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The Matlosana Karate Team of Shinkyokushinkai will be hosting a junior grading test for coloured belts, with teams from Moses Kotane, Madibeng, Ruth Segomotsi Mompati taking part in the examination. It will be held at the Manzilpark Hall on Saturday November 23 and will be conducted by Sensei Thomas Mayekani, Sensei Khehla Jele from Gauteng and Sensei Tebogo Moloane.

Karatekas van die Johan van Tonder karateklub in Smitstraat, Adamayview het Noordwes Tiska verteenwoordig tydens die SA Tiska karatekampioenskap en puik gevaar. Die toernooi het op 18 en 19 Oktober by die NWU, Potchefstroom plaasgevind. Shihan is Sahota 8e Dan van Engeland en ook Tiska Internasionale se stylhoof was ook teenwoordig.

 

The Tiska Open took place and these athletes excelled. They are Divané Visagie, gold for kata and kumite and bronze for ippon kumite, Driaan Campher, silver for kata and bronze for ippon kumite, Bennie Smit, silver kata and bronze for ippon kumite, Kiana Martens, gold for ippon kumite, silver for kata and kumite, Werner Maartens, instructor, and (front) Leah Maartens, silver for kata, kumite and ippon kumite, Milan Maartens, kata gold kumite and ippon kumite silver and Anjené Griesel, kata silver and ippon kumite bronze.

Karatekas did their Dan grading under the watchful eye of Garsharan Sahota, 8th Dan black belt and founder of Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association (Tiska). The candidates display their new ranks, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Sahota handled their grading during his annual visit to South Africa. The event marks a significant milestone for these practitioners as they continue their journey in mastering the art of Shotokan karate. They are Angelique Maartens 4th Dan, Divané Visagie 2nd Dan, Sensei Werner Maartens Instructor, Kiana Maartens 2nd Dan and Bennie Smit 3rd Dan.

Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The annual Hollard Daredevil Run has done it again - thousands of men around the country donned purple speedos to run 5km, raising vital awareness about prostate and testicular cancer. Runners also took to the streets in Potchefstroom, Rustenburg and Klerksdorp. This nationwide phenomenon, which first started 15 years ago, raises funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa to be used for testing in under-resourced areas and increase awareness, support and research.
