Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The DA urges the municipality to maintain and unblock storm water drainage systems before the rain season starts. “Last time when it started raining, we saw the impact of blocked water drains, leaving streets inundated with stagnant water, which not only affects homes but also businesses and public spaces.

“Residents reported significant damage to property, including electrical appliances, furniture, and structural integrity, in areas like Jouberton, Khuma, and Kanana due to water seepage and flooding,” said Cllr Gerhard Strydom.

He added roads and pavements are covered in water, and streets like Muranti Road, Monica Avenue, Platan Avenue, Ian Street, and others become inaccessible to traffic as soon as there is a heavy down-pour.

Strydom advised the Matlosana Municipality to clean storm water drains as a matter of urgency and also to install litter traps on all drains to prevent rubbish washed into the river system and to reduce the
amount of pollution flowing into the Vaal River.
