STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Nurses in the Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District convened at Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital to introspect and appreciate their selflessness in rendering quality health care in the district on Thursday, 30 November. 

The opening and welcoming remarks by Ms J. Thupe, indicated that nurse’s prayer day is to acknowledge unwavering resilience projected by nurses. She highlighted that it is time to reflect on the importance of nurse’s wellbeing and also to applaud them for offering solace to patients. Pastor V. Jantjie indicated that nurses are helpers, comfort the bereaved, and help the suicidal through counselling. She alluded that nurses are spiritual being in the context that their spirituality is inclined to saving lives. Mr Issac Namelang from Provincial Nursing Directorate said nurses should make use of their provincial office when faced with challenges and also to help them eradicate negative stereotypes always associated with nursing. Echoing the same sentiments, Ms N. Mendela, Acting Director in the Provincial Nursing Directorate said this prayer day serves as a celebration to appreciate the work nurses do and to give them strength in taking care of the patients. “It is a way of identifying gaps that needs to be closed so that they can do more and to support them in everything they do, solve problems they encounter,” said Mendela. The motivational speaker of the day, Ms M. Bitterboss reminisced about the role of nurses and their obligation to patients. She cautioned nurses not to limit themselves and advised nurses to do good for other people not for the benefit of self. The nurses had an opportunity to watch a role play of the performance of their duties.
