STELLALANDER-TAUNG: In Taung, a multi-disciplinary team made up of Vryburg Public Order Police (POP), and K9 Unit as well as Taung and Schweizer-Reneke Crime Prevention Units, arrested a 44-year-old man during the operation conducted at New Stands, Maphoitsile village, Taung. 

That after the suspect was found in possession of 9 mm pistol with a magazine and 11 rounds of ammunition on Friday, 5 July. The suspect was arrested after failing to account for the possession. The suspect was expected to appear before the Taung Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 08 July, on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition. The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, lauded the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati team for their dedication, which led to the arrests and confiscation of firearms that are used to commit serious and violent crimes. He also thanked members of the community for working together with the police in fighting crime.
