STELLALANDER-KATHU: The second annual Sishen Classic Charity Golf Day, hosted by Anglo American Kumba Iron Ore at the Kalahari Country Club, was a resounding success.
The event raised an impressive R2.6 million to support youth-focused initiatives in the Kathu region, combining the passion for golf with a strong commitment to community upliftment. The funds will be distributed among five organizations dedicated to empowering local youth: Kathu Combined School, Sprout Academy, Rethusa Bana NPO, Bethlehem ECD Centre, and Kalahari Eye Warriors. These organizations address critical needs such as specialized education, mentorship, and life skills development, ensuring lasting impact for the community’s future leaders. The day highlighted the power of collaboration in driving social change. Tracey Vollmer, communication and events specialist at Sishen Mine, remarked: “This event exemplifies our commitment to uplifting our communities and forging strong partnerships that amplify our impact. By working together, we can invest in meaningful change and transform lives.” Jean du Plessis, senior operational manager at Komatsu, the event’s title sponsor, echoed these sentiments, saying: “Our partnership with Kumba Iron Ore allows us to expand our reach and impact, ensuring that young people in our communities have access to the resources they need to thrive.” Sponsors and participants raised R1.18 million, which was matched by Kumba’s Executive Committee with an additional R1.2 million. Proceeds from the auction of collector items further boosted the total, showcasing the generosity and shared vision of everyone involved. The event was not only a celebration of golf but also a demonstration of the collective dedication to creating brighter futures for the youth of Kathu. With this year’s success, the Sishen Classic Charity Golf Day has cemented itself as a cornerstone of community-driven impact in the region.
