STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The Chair of Chairs in the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Tebogo Modise, has referred two cases of statutory rape to authorities after uncovering disturbing incidents involving underage siblings who have given birth.

One of the minors has already had two children. Modise made the discovery during a visit to Mojamorago Primary School in Moshawane village on the first day of the 2025 academic year. Expressing deep concern, she highlighted how teenage pregnancies contribute to generational poverty, particularly among impoverished families and child-headed households. “This phenomenon must be fought if children robbed of their innocence are to reclaim their future, and those responsible must be held accountable,” Modise stated firmly. She emphasized that those who exploit children in this manner would be pursued relentlessly, vowing to ensure justice for the victims. The alarming cases underscore the urgent need for community intervention and strengthened measures to protect vulnerable children from abuse, while also addressing the societal challenges that perpetuate such injustices.
