RUSTENBURG HERALD – RUSTENBURG - Families, friends and community members from Rustenburg and beyond are invited to celebrate the official arrival of Spring this Saturday – all in aid of the Lighthouse Children’s Home. A Spring Cycle and Fun Run is being hosted for the home by Dupwest Attorneys in association with Rustenburg Run/Walk for Life, Rustenburg Cycle Club, and Brauhaus Afrika. All proceeds and funds raised will go directly to Lighthouse!
With this weekend already on the horizon, Saturday could be the perfect day to get walking, running or cycling in the Spring sun with family and friends – all for a good cause. “This Saturday we will be hosting our first ever Spring Cycle and Fun Run event,” says Elsa Doubell, co-founder of the Lighthouse Children’s Home. “We’re extremely grateful to the event sponsors who have made this possible.”

The family-friendly event offers walkers, runners and cyclists a choice of activities that cater to participants of all ages and skills levels. “Those looking to walk or run can choose from distances of 2km, 5km, and 8km, whilst our off-road cycling options feature a 5km, 8km and 16km route. The starting and ending point for all activities is the wonderful Brauhaus Afrika, where registration will open at 06:00 on the day.”
Doubell adds that the entry fee is R30 per person: “This will go directly to supporting our home and the children we care for. There will also be a donation drop-off point for items such as food, clothes and stationery.”
For those who would prefer to welcome Spring in a less active way, there is every reason to still join in the festivities. The event will feature live music, a variety of food stalls, a market, and delicious German food, creating a festive atmosphere for everyone. Children will be entertained with games and activities, making it a perfect outing for families.
"We’re incredibly excited to welcome the community to this event. It’s a chance to celebrate the start of Spring, have fun with friends and family, and help us to continue supporting over 60 children who really need it," says Doubell.
The team from IWISA No 1 will also be there on the day – reminding community members about the IWISA No 1 Fills Good campaign running at Three Star Rustenburg until the end of November.
Doubell notes that money raised through the IWISA No 1 Fills Good campaign will be used towards purchasing an “exit” home of safety for the children who will be turning 18 at the end of this year: “We need R600K to buy the house so we’re asking everyone to get involved and make it possible.”
With Spring the ideal time to start positive habits and come together to celebrate the possibility of the new season, Doubell is hoping that as many people as possible will join on Saturday: “We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to the event and having a very special day together. Your participation and contribution will make all the difference.”
