RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - What have you and your family planned for the week of 13 to 17 August 2024? Well, you’ll probably have to cancel, as Rustenburg is about to see an Airshow of unprecedented scale at the Rustenburg Aerodrome which will see kids and many adults leaving the show with new dreams of future careers in their eyes. But wait, there’s more - the Airshow on Saturday, 17 August, will be preceded by large-scale Career Exhibition Sessions with quite a variety of some of the most exciting careers you could dream about!

Don’t be alarmed - this definitely won’t be the ordinary “run of the mill” career exhibition that the Rustenburg community is familiar with - this is indeed a Careers Session/exhibition that will introduce learners and adults alike to some of the most exciting professions you could think of with highly acclaimed speakers to lead several sessions. After a week of excitement focusing on careers that you have probably never considered, the “careers week” will culminate in the Marakanelo Airshow which promises to be the proverbial cherry on the cake!

Grade 8 - 11s
On 14 and 15 August the Careers Sessions will focus on slightly older learners who may choose any of the two dates to attend. Schools and learners should note however, that it is of critical importance to register beforehand as walk-ins will not be allowed. Marakanelo encourages schools to partake as a group, but parents wishing to register their own children for attendance won’t be denied the opportunity. The times and venue are exactly the same as the first Session for Grade 7s starting on Tuesday, 13 August.
Make no mistake - the Marakanelo Careers Sessions are not for learners only - a special “edition” has been set aside for educators with an Educators Seminar on Marine Sciences as a subject in the classroom on Friday, 16 August.
These sessions will be presented by Mr Marnus Smith from the world-renowned Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation in Cape Town. Please note that for this session educators and schools MUST register beforehand to attend as Marakanelo has very limited space to accommodate educators. Other important speakers include Captain Knowledge Bengu - Ice Breaker Ship Pilot of the Agulhas 11 vessel (Maritime speaker); Captain William Beesnaar - SAA Airline Captain; Mr Sam Thwala - Drones - NTSU Aviation; Ms Mosima Khumalo SAA Flight Crew; Mr Ofile Kgalegi - Business & Life Coach and the keynote speaker; Professor Wesley Harris - Aeronautics and Astronautics Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA.
