Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Tuesday May 28 is World Hunger Day and despite worldwide efforts to promote food security, global hunger is on the rise, driven by natural resource shortages, climate change, and armed conflicts.

The Klerksdorp Rotary Club had an outreach to Uitkomsdal on this day. There are approximately 80 individuals who live there - 36 families, 31 children (from 4 months to 17 years) and 12 elderly citizens. They depend on donations for basic necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, and medical care.

They received Cfam, fortified porridge, which equals about 2 000 meals for these families in need.

According to a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) study this year, every night, 828 million people around the world go to bed hungry. The “Global Report on Food Crisis” stated that 258 million people worldwide are suffering from acute food insecurity.
