Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Disgruntled car guards are voicing their unhappiness on social media about being replaced at Matlosana Mall.

But, says Tshepiso Kabai, spokesperson for the Mall, they have been trying to come to an agreement with the car guards for a period of two years, to no avail. “Unfortunately, despite several meetings and written correspondence we have not been able to do so.’’

Last week, Klerksdorp Record received complaints from car guards of them now being without jobs after they were told to vacate the premises. Also on TikTok, a video was going viral of car guards being told to leave the parking area at Matlosana Mall by armed security officers “’because it is private property’’.

Several car guards could be heard complaining loudly about the new company being from Gauteng coming to work in Matlosana. “What are you going to do with us, our children are hungry,’’ one of the voices said.

Kabai confirmed that Golden Mile, an accredited service provider affiliated with Fidelity Security, was appointed to the mall to ensure a safe environment for patrons and car attendants. “As a part of this process and to ensure we respect our local community and the existing provider, all existing attendants were given the opportunity to transition under this new structure and take up permanent employment with the new provider.

“However, to date, notwithstanding several engagements with the car attendants, none of the current car attendants have accepted any requests to meet and engage with the prospective service provider to secure permanent employment.’’
