Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Matlosana’s new mayor, Cllr Fikile Mahlophe was busy last week with several Mandela Day engagements.
On Friday July 19, he visited Goudkoppie Heritage Hill for the continuation of celebrating International Mandela Day. He preserved his hand print next to an artwork depicting the former president’s face organised by artists of Leano la Bophelo, a non-profit organization that organised the cultural event which was coupled with a flea market for artists and crafters to showcase their talent and sell their products and services.
The mayor was awarded an opportunity to address people who were at the heritage site for the celebrations. During his address, he highlighted the importance of taking care of heritage sites like Goudkoppie.
As part of the city’s Mandela Day programme on Thursday July 18, he also visited two home owners in Alabama and handed over title deeds. Cllr Mahlophe handed over a RDP house in Alabama Ext 2 to the family of Robert Galamadine as part of 67 minutes of celebrating Mandela Day.
The mayor also joined employees of the City of Matlosana at Lesedi Old Age Home in Jacaranda by cleaning the facility.
