Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The MMC for Electrical Engineering, Cllr Matome Mangesi, encourages residents to upgrade their prepaid meter systems. He conducted a door-to-door campaign in Jouberton, aiming to raise awareness and provide assistance to residents who have yet to complete the necessary upgrades.
This hands-on approach helps ensure that everyone is informed about the importance of these upgrades, and it offers support to those who need help with the process.
The current pre-paid electricity metering software will expire on November 24 for all prepaid electricity meters in South Africa. All consumers, whether supplied by Eskom or the Municipality, must update the coding on their prepaid meters to continue purchasing electricity.
If the meter codes are not updated, prepaid tokens purchased will not work, leaving affected customers without electricity.
The prepaid meter coding project is essential for technical reasons to ensure that all prepaid meters continue to function properly. Key Revision Number Two (KRN2) and Standard Transfer Specification (STS) technology will stop accepting credit tokens when the vending codes for the meters expire.
The recoding of your meter is free of charge. For further information, contact Eskom at 08600 37566 or use the USSD self-service platform by dialling 120 37566#.
