Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Health MEC Madoda Sambatha visited Tshepong Hospital last week to officially open the CathLab, oncology unit and nuclear medicine unit. The hospital has been administering Nuclear Medicine since July 2023 and so far 557 patients have received nuclear treatment. 

The benefits include reduced number of referrals to Gauteng, early diagnosis and treatment at early a stage, allowing improved Cancer treatment outcomes, reduced waiting list for cancer treatment in NW and treatment reducing harm to healthy tissues and organs.

According to the Health Department, it is non-invasive, reducing the risk of complications and discomfort, nuclear medicine can help manage pain, particularly for patients with cancer, nuclear medicine procedures can be more cost-effective than other diagnostic and treatment options and nuclear medicine has led to improved patient outcomes, survival rates, and quality of life for cancer patients.

The facility is also offering Linear Accelerator Radiation Therapy.
