Lentswe, Mahikeng - The Director-General (DG) for the National Department of Basic Education (DBE), Mathanzima Mweli, visited the North West province on Sunday November 30 to monitor and motivate the Grade 12 examination markers. The National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations concluded on Thursday November 27, and marking personnel have since reported to their respective centres. The North West has 20 marking venues with hostel facilities, employing a total of 4 017 personnel for this year’s process.

DG Mweli addressed the markers, emphasizing the national importance of their task. “You left the comfort and the pleasure of your homes to come and perform the national duty. This exercise is not taken for granted, it is valued highly by this Department,” he said, referring to the markers as “National, Priceless, Precious Assets.”

North West Education MEC Viola Motsumi welcomed the DG’s visit and assured him that all markers reported for duty. She confirmed that the province has implemented 24-hour security at all marking centres to protect the well-being of the personnel.

The markers underwent an initial training process, and the official marking began on Monday December 1. The entire marking process in the province is scheduled to be completed by December 12.
