Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Ponatshego Ya Baswa, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting less privileged learners in NW, hosted a highly successful matric farewell charity event. Nearly 200 guests attended the event on September 19 at the Protea Hotel. It was fully funded through donations, offering learners an unforgettable experience and valuable support for their academic and personal journeys.

Learners arrived in gowns and suits donated by the community, with makeup and hair services provided free of charge by renowned local makeup artists Mmakopano, Amantle Mokwena and Maria Mlokoti. 

Among the contributors was model Ms Grand Supreme South Africa 2022 Oratile Rannona, who donated a beautiful dress she wore during her pageant competitions.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by local DJ Oratile Chakane, who performed for free.

Award-winning filmmaker and actress Mpho Masiu served as the master of ceremonies, while special guest speakers included 2nd runner-up of Miss North West 2024, Nomsa Mgina, Clinical Psychologist Dr Nkele Molefe who addressed the learners about stress and anxiety that come with final exams and how to apply coping mechanisms. NWU PhD candidate Pinky Lerato Ngami who is a lecturer at the Potchefstroom campus, addressed important topics such as transitioning from high school to university. 

Representatives from North West Nursing College and Vuselela TVET College provided learners with career guidance, highlighting various opportunities within healthcare and technical fields. Petronela Chabeli, a scientist from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, delivered an insightful talk on food security and innovative agricultural practices as well as career opportunities to explore within the agricultural sector.
