MAHIKENG MAIL - MAHIKENG: The North West Provincial Legislature has established an Ad Hoc Committee to investigate allegations made by Naledi Local Municipality Mayor, Clifton Groep, against Premier Lazarus Mokgosi.
In the allegations Groep claimed that Mokgosi instructed Thabo Appolus, a former municipal employee, to alter a report concerning the appointment of Municipal Manager Modisanyane Segapo. The committee, chaired by Nathan Oliphant, has commenced its work, with Advocate Pule Seleka SC appointed as evidence leader.
The committee’s terms of reference include investigating, inquiring, making findings and reporting on the allegations.
The allegations have sparked controversy within the ANC, with the Mayor accusing Premier Mokgosi of interfering with Segapo’s appointment. The Premier’s response to the allegations is expected.
Public hearings are expected to concluded today, Thursday, 27 November, when the Ad Hoc committee is also expected to give a full outcomes on the findings made in the hearings.
The Democratic Alliance (DA), Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have since welcomed the establishment of the Ad Hoc Committee, calling for a transparent and unbiased investigation.
