BRITS POS – BRITS – Homeless people took over the area where the post boxes at Brits Post Office are situated, leaving it in total disgrace and residents afraid and disgusted.
Years ago iron framework had been erected to solve this problem, but night after night these ‘overnighters’, crawl through the iron framework to find shelter inside the premises of the post office in the lobby where post boxes are. According to residents, the area has become an eyesore with litter, cardboard, a filthy smell, broken glass all over the floors and in front of post boxes. Surrounded by the criminal elements, collecting mail is now a safety concern.
After numerous complaints from local residents, Brits Pos, spoke to the acting supervisor, Collin Pilane. According to Pilane he is aware of this problem. He said that the iron framework is locked daily before they go home and that there is nothing more that they can do.
It seems that no one wants to take responsibility.
Brits Pos then spoke to Johanne Molwane, the post office area controller at the head office in Rustenburg.
She said that the situation in Brits happens at all the post offices in her area, but it is the responsibility of the supervisors to make sure the lobbies are kept clean daily.
She said that this matter will get immediate attention.
