BRITS - On Thursday, 20 June 2024, members of Brits Social Crime Prevention, led by Lieutenant Colonel Johan Naude, District Communication, Brits Community Police Forum Executive Committee, Community in Blue and Department of Health embarked on a door-to-door awareness campaign to sensitise the community (females and males) about Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBV&F) offences such as assault, rape and murder.
Women mostly fall prey to and become victims in the hands of male perpetrators that they have a relationship with.
The door-to-door awareness campaign commenced with a motorcade at Nkandla. Participants engaged members of the community in the streets by sharing GBV&F preventative tips.
The motorcade proceeded to Damonsville, whereby the community was also educated on GBV&F. Male victims were urged to come forth and break the silence by reporting incidents of GBV to the police. Lieutenant Colonel Naude emphasised that the police are mandated by the constitution to create a safe and secure environment for all citizens and GBV & F is a social ill that is punishable by law.
