BRITS POS – BRITS - Michael Okoya (51), a Nigerian national, appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, facing charges of dealing in drugs. Okoya was arrested by members of the North West Provincial Anti-Drug Team and Tactical Response Team (TRT) on Monday, 8 September 2025, in Klerksdorp. His arrest follows a search and seizure operation, which was conducted at his flat in Klerksdorp on 2 September by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Intelligence and Tactical Response Team (TRT).

The team confiscated drugs, including crystal meth, kat, and mandrax tablets, with an estimated value of over R1.5 million. The suspect was not found at his flat when the searched was conducted, and the police launched a manhunt. “Members of the North West Provincial Anti-Drug Team and North West Tactical Response Team followed up on information, which led to the apprehension of the suspect. The suspect appeared in court and was remanded in custody. His case was postponed to 17 September 2025 for further investigation,” says Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko, spokesperson for SAPS North West. The acting North West Head, Brigadier Georgia Moos, and the Director of Public Prosecutions in the North West, Dr Rachel Makhari, have commended the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation members and Organised Crime Component of the NPA for their relentless efforts in ensuring that the accused is brought to justice.
