BRITS POS – BRITS – SAPS recently honoured and rewarded committed North West SAPS employees who did well in various environments in the South African Police Service (SAPS) to support and strive towards giving effect to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the Service. SAPS Management in North West led by Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, supported by the MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Mr Sello Lehari, showed their commitment , supporting and embracing the achievements and hard work of all the employees within the SAPS at the 11th Annual Excellence Awards.
The event was also attended by the Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection: Lt General SM Sibiya, the Deputy National Commissioner for Policing: Lt Gen TC Mosikili as well as various senior officers, sponsors and dignitaries, including the Community Police Forum (CPF) Provincial Chairperson, Mr Malungane.
In our policing area, the following members were rewarded:
*Capt Langa was the winner in the category; Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management
(CR & CSM) Employee of the year level 8-12. He is working at Provincial CR & CSM: Investigative Psychology. He patiently linked a murder and rape suspect with six cases at Marikana, Bethanie, Rustenburg and Mooinooi between September 2020 and June 2022, The accused abandoned bail, after the Captain submitted an affidavit to court indicating that the accused is possibly a serial rapist.
*Brigadier Mokgwabone, the Provincial Head for Corporate Communication and Liaison
Services, was announced as the winner in the Category: Senior Administration Manager of the year level 13-15.
The Provincial Commissioner also awarded the following persons with Special Awards:
*Leadership and Excellence in Operational environment: Maj Gen Mosimanegape, the District Commissioner in Bojanala (Brits)
*Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit Employee of the year was awarded to Lieutenant Colonel John Legoale for his exceptional leadership qualities within the unit.
The accolade on a different level also went to Warrant Officer Clifford Mokone who traced and arrested a serial rapist who had long terrorised communities in Thabazimbi, Lethabong and Letlhabile. These dockets were centralised and trialled at Brits Magistrate Court. The accused was handed six life imprisonments and further 150 years. The Warrant Officer is not a first timer at these awards, he won the same award in 2013.
*Wali Modau, a general worker at Brits FCS scooped an award as well for Admin employee of the year, walking the extra mile for duties over and above his general work call for duty, always assisting members with capturing dockets on the SAPS system and other systematic duties.
Sergeant Julius Nkgoeng of Letlhabile SAPS Detective unit was awarded Detective and Forensic Employee of the year for his various suspect convictions, not his first time as he got promoted to Sergeant through the very same excellence and award.
*Brits Trio Task Team members, Sergeant Benjamin Motaung, Thabo Modise, Reggie Baloyi and Constable Enoch Mabasa and Thabang Mabitsela. The team has unbelievable numbers when it comes to arrests of the following cases: house breaking and theft, Murder, Business Robbery and Murder, Kidnapping and Murder, Business Burglary, Business Robbery, House Robbery, Possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of endangered species.
*Two members of Brits Crime Intelligence were awarded the Employee of the year award and a further award for Team of the year with the inclusion of the team leader Colonel Sebolai and one other member. The three members cannot be identified for security reasons.
