BRITS POS – KLIPGAT – A 15-year-old learner had been arrested on Wednesday, 14 August, by Klipgat police after he was found in possession of a firearm and six live rounds of ammunition.
According to information, police were dispatched to the school following the call from the principal. On arrival, the principal showed the police a firearm, ammunition as well as the learner who was allegedly found in possession of the items. The learner allegedly told the police that the firearm belongs to his brother who has gone missing.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm was reported stolen at Mabopane, Gauteng on 11 July 2024,” says Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, SAPS North West spokesperson. “The 15-year-old minor was assessed by social workers on Thursday, 15 August, and was placed under the care of his parents. Meanwhile, the police are looking for the learner’s brother. The minor was expected to appear before the Ga-Rankuwa Children’s Court on Wednesday, 21 August. The District Commissioner of Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 1, Major General Modisagaarekwe Mosimanegape, urged parents and firearm owners not to leave their firearms unattended, as it poses a great danger to the community.
