BRITS POS – HEBRON - Hebron Police arrested two suspects for arson and possession of suspected stolen property on Thursday, 30 May, at Kgabalatsane village, Hebron, 30km northeast of Brits. It is alleged that members of the community set alight a house belonging to a local church pastor on Thursday, 30 May.
“According to information at our disposal, members of the community accused the pastor of kidnapping and keeping children at his house,” said SAPS North West spokesperson, Lt Col Amanda Funani.
“It is alleged 300 members of the community gathered in front of the church at Kgabalatsane village on Thursday, 30 May and demanded the release of the children. Police consequently found three children and handed them to their parents who denied the alleged kidnapping. The police escorted the pastor to Hebron police station after the angry mob threatened to assault him. Police were later called and informed that the pastor’s house was burning. Subsequent to the incident, two suspects aged, 19 and 54, were arrested for arson and possession of suspected stolen property. They appeared before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 3 June 2024,” Funani concluded.
