BRITS POS – BRITS – Road users, traveling to their Easter destinations can be assured that Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Bakwena), responsible for managing and maintaining a safe and reliable road infrastructure along the N1 and N4 routes within the Limpopo, Gauteng and North West provinces, have enhanced their road safety measures to ensure safer roads for all users.
Crucial roadworks will be suspended during this period with no major lane closures in place except one lane that will remain closed on the N4 between Brits Plaza and the M17 due to urgent remedial works.

With road safety being one of Bakwena’s key pillars, Bakwena is proud to announce the continuation of partnerships with Motus and Renault South Africa, and to welcome a new partner to this important road safety initiative, Rexy Asset Management.
As part of increased safety measures along the route this Easter season, Motus and Renault South Africa handed over six brand-new Renault Captur vehicles to Bakwena on Wednesday, 16 April, at the Menlyn Renault dealership. These six vehicles will be deployed by Bakwena along the N1N4 route as additional patrol vehicles to support and provide visible policing, enhance surveillance, provide crash assistance and help road users in distress. Thanks to the new partner, Rexy Asset Management, all vehicles have been fitted with Pro-Trackers to enable real-time tracking and monitoring. The vehicles will be operational on the N1N4 route throughout the busy Easter period and the upcoming long weekends, up until 5 May 2025.
“We are proud to support Bakwena’s ongoing efforts to make our roads safer this Easter season and beyond, in alignment with our Global Human First Program”, says Nosipho Manitshana, VP: Marketing and Communications Renault SA.
Rexy Asset Management is a proudly South African security solutions company dedicated to curbing crime and creating safer communities across the country. With a vision to make South Africa safe and great again, the company offers a range of services including smart surveillance, Professional Site Guarding, VIP protection, and advanced tracking technologies designed to enhance public safety and support law enforcement efforts. “Partnering with Bakwena allows us to put smart tracking technology to work for the safety of all road users,” says Paul Seloane, Rexy Asset Management’s Managing Director.
Bakwena encourages road users to plan their journeys with peak travel periods along the N1N4 route in mind. Please use the guide below to assist you with planning your journey.
As part of Bakwena’s road safety campaign, special focus is placed on parents traveling with children who do not have access to car seats. Bakwena, in partnership with Wheel Well - an NPO dedicated to child road safety - is pleased to invite parents to the N1 Total Panorama Petroport on Thursday, 17 April from 10:00 to 13:00. Parents will have the opportunity to receive a much-needed car seat for their child, or to exchange or upgrade an existing one for a minimal donation. Experts from Wheel Well and Bakwena will also be on hand to offer valuable advice on child car seat safety.
As the N1N4 route is expected to be very busy, Solomon Kganyago, Bakwena’s Chief Operating Officer, encourages motorists to:
Plan trips to avoid peak times.
Ensure your tags are topped up well ahead of planned travel dates. Road users can do this either via the SANRAL app or via the various SSTs (self-service terminals) situated along the Bakwena N1N4 route, N1 Total Panorama Petroport, N4 Total Magalies Petroport, N4 Kroondal Shell (east), Marlotti Guest Lodge – N4 Swartruggens as well as N4 Shell in Zeerust.
Adhere to speed limits; be extra cautious when approaching busy intersections and areas of high traffic volumes.
Take breaks every two hours or after 200 km of travel to avoid fatigue. Driver fatigue occurs when motorists have not had enough time to rest before embarking on a long journey and potentially could lead to crashes and fatalities.
