BRITS POS – MOOINOOI – Two men were arrested on Friday, after the body of a 19-year-old woman from Mooinooi was found in bushes along the N4 Bakwena highway on Sunday, 2 February.
At first a case of a missing person was registered at Mooinooi police station after 19-year-old Lerato Moalosi was reported missing. According to information, Moalosi and her boyfriend arrived at her place in the early hours of Sunday morning, 2 February in Modikwane, in Modderspruit, Mooinooi.

“As they were about to enter the house, two suspects grabbed Moalosi and disappeared, leaving her boyfriend behind,” says Col Adéle Myburgh, SAPS North West spokesperson. Her boyfriend immediately sprang into action to get help from the local community and the police, but the victim was nowhere to be found. Later the family received a phone call, demanding ransom for Lerato’ safe return.
Sadly, her naked body was discovered later the same day at around 11:00 in bushes at Majakaneng, next to the N4 road, about 1km from where she was kidnapped,” says Col Myburgh.
A thorough investigation by Mooinooi Detectives, supported by Bojanala Sub-District 1 Crime Intelligence and Brits Trio Task Team led to the identification and arrest of two suspects on Friday, 14 February. Police seized blood-stained clothes, a cellphone, bank card and an Identity Document at the address of one of the suspects.
The duo, aged 29 and 30, appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 17 February, for kidnapping, rape and murder.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng is saddened by the cruel act and pointed out that police will continue to work hard to ensure that those who violate the vulnerable groups, that include women and children, are dealt with harshly. The General also thanked the team members for their collaborative efforts that resulted in the breakthrough.
