RUSTENBURG HERALD - ZINNIAVILLE - The Rustenburg Local Municipality last week, continued to enforce compliance as illegal electrical connections were dis-connected in the Zinniaville Industrial Area.
The operation was led by the Member of the Mayoral Committee for the Directorate of Technical and Infrastructure Services, Cllr Karabo Phutu, in a bid to curb energy losses, protect municipal infrastructure, and uphold the law.

The intervention, according to the municipality, is part of the broader City at Work programme, reinforcing the Municipality’s commitment to structured service delivery, accountability, and safety for all.
Despite many applauding the municipality for their efforts, the operation also reportedly sparked outrage in nearby informal settlements. On Friday, 1 August, tensions escalated when disgruntled community members allegedly set alight a municipal electrical unit bakkie during the disconnection drive.
The municipality however has said the programme remains an active commitment to responsible governance - translating municipal plans into real, measurable action.
