RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In an effort to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) Northern Zone Donor Relations team led the first leg of a series of Corporate Social Investment projects on Friday, 11 July, at Lighthouse Children and Youth Care Centre, situated in East End.
Led by the Head of Donor Relations, Nhlanhla Hlope, Rustenburg, Pretoria Central, West and East DR teams collectively joined hands in making sure that this year’s theme “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity,” was celebrated at Lighthouse.
Part of the day’s activities included personnel interacting with the children of Lighthouse, playing games and most importantly kick-starting a long-term project of painting the Boys' Room.
“It's days like these when we look back and are thankful to stakeholders within our community. These kids need our love and care, we cannot do it alone at the centre and we are grateful for the contribution SANBS has made,” said Elsa Doubwell, Founder of the Centre.
“Spending time with the kids made us realise that the little we came with, gave them a bit of hope for tomorrow and I am grateful that we got involved in an initiative that brings hope to the less fortunate,” reiterated Mr Oscar Ramutshedi.
* This initiative would not have been a success without the support of Food Lover's Market (supplying fresh fruit), Brian from Builders Warehouse (in his personal capacity), Romans Pizza that donated 60 boxes of pizza, Mica that generously donated paint and sealer, whilst Builders Warehouse provided brushes to facilitate the renovations. Additionally, Kroondal Spar donated essential baby products, while Pulse FM donated 20l of blue paint.
