RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Bojanala Platinum District Municipality (BPDM) Council took a resolution to dismiss its former Municipal Manager, Mr Letlhogonolo Fourie, with immediate effect during an ordinary meeting held on 30 August 2024. The dismissal comes after the municipality instituted disciplinary proceedings against Fourie following allegations of misconduct relating to payment of service providers implicated in the forensic investigations of R134 million that was erroneously transferred to the municipality in 2019.

“An independent investigator was appointed by Council to investigate allegations of misconduct as guided by the Local Government: Disciplinary Regulations for Senior Managers: 2010.
An investigation report was tabled with Council that lead to the disciplinary processes being instituted as the allegations were of serious nature,” Thapelo Matebesi - Head of Communications of the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality told Waldie Volschenk of Rustenburg Herald. The BPDM Council placed Fourie on precautionary suspension on 29 September 2023 in line with disciplinary procedures in the Local Government: Disciplinary Regulations for Senior Managers, 2014.  Municipal Council is enjoined by the law to act against the Municipal Manager and any other official in an instance of contravention of legislation as set out in the Municipal Finance Management Act 56 of 2003 on responsibilities of municipal officials, Matebesi explained. BPDM Executive Mayor, Clr Suzan Nthangeni has called for calm and expressed confidence in the independent disciplinary team that recommended dismissal of the Municipal Manager. Nthangeni reiterated the Municipal Council’s responsibility of ensuring clean governance in pursuit of service delivery and attainment of clean audits.
