RUSTENBURG HERALD - TLHABANE - The South African Police Service (SAPS), in partnership with various law enforcement agencies, continues to intensify its weekly Safer City operations.
On Friday, 25 July, the focus was placed on the Tlhabane policing precinct. Led by Station Commander Col David Moagi, the operation targeted high-priority areas including Rustenburg Noord, Zinniaville, Bobuantja, Lefaragatlha, and Tlhabane, with the aim of preventing and combating crime.
Vehicle checkpoints were strategically placed along key routes, including the R104 near Marang Compound, where 50 vehicles were stopped and searched. Traffic officials issued several fines for violations.
Acting on intelligence, a team led by Col Moagi proceeded to a residence in Tlhabane West, resulting in the arrest of six Ugandan nationals, including one woman, for contravening the Immigration Act. Although all were in possession of passports, immigration officers confirmed the documents lacked valid entry stamps, indicating illegal entry into the country.
Additional components of the operation included compliance inspections at second-hand goods dealers and targeted law enforcement actions, which yielded the following results: selling liquor without a licence, two arrests; illegal immigration, nine arrests; failure by a permit holder to produce firearms or ammunition in their possession, one incident; contravention of the Private Security Industry Regulatory Act, one incident and selling counterfeit goods, one incident.
The operation, which ran from 08:00 to 16:00, forms part of SAPS’s broader strategy to enhance community safety and enforce compliance with the law across the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District.
