RUSTENBURG HERALD - PHOKENG - The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Phokeng has arrested a 45-year-old male suspect following a fatal stabbing incident that occurred on Saturday, 26 July 2025, at a mine hostel within the Phokeng policing precinct.
According to Sgt Ofentse Mokgadi, Rustenburg police Spokesperson, the police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of a murder. Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of a male victim lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds and visible bleeding.

A cellphone and an Okapi knife were recovered near the deceased. The victim was certified dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Mokgadi said preliminary investigations were conducted, and witness statements were obtained. This led to the swift arrest of Sithikhaya Mgidi, who is alleged to be responsible for the murder.
“The suspect appeared before the Bafokeng Magistrates' Court in Tlhabane on Monday, 28 July, and was remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for 11 August for a formal bail application,” concluded Mokgadi.
The Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, strongly condemned the incident and reiterated the call for community members to resolve conflicts peacefully. She commended the swift response and professionalism of the officers that led to the timely arrest of the suspect.
