RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 is intensifying efforts to track down armed suspects involved in multiple business robberies between 20 and 21 February. The targeted businesses include tuck shops and fuel stations, where criminals made off with cash and large quantities of cigarettes.
The first robbery took place in Tlhabane West at a tuck shop on 20 February at 17:30.
Municipal employee and five others arrested for possession of stolen copper cables
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - A municipal employee of Council and five other foreign nationals were arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning for being in possession of stolen copper cables and transformer components, following a tip-off from the public that for the past three to six years municipal trucks have been seen going in and out of this employee’s residence.

The arrested individual is employed in the Electrical Department of the Rustenburg Local Municipality.

DA calls for Treasury probe into R20m Tlhabane West sports facility
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in North West is calling on National Treasury to urgently investigate the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Tlhabane West Sports Facility project, which has become yet another symbol of mismanagement and potential corruption. Despite receiving nearly R20 million in Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) funding, this project remains incomplete - three years after construction began - while the municipality has already burned through more than R17.5 million.

Out of sheer desperation, residents of Ward 15, 16 and 17 requested a meeting with Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) and the Mayor after continuous, lengthy electricity outages - the tip of the iceberg of the service delivery disaster in Rustenburg.
Brits residents take to the streets in Rustenburg over service delivery woes
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Alerts went out on various WhatsApp groups on Monday afternoon, 3 February, after protesters took to the streets in front of the local Eskom offices in Mabe Business Park.
In an unexpected turn of events, these protesters were not local residents but drove and were transported in a great number of vehicles from various informal settlements in the area of Brits.
Rustenburg Herald arrived on the scene to find approximately 150 community members sitting on sidewalks, talking in small groups and filing down the road to make their presence and dissatisfaction known with the national energy provider, Eskom.
DA calls for intervention on abandoned Koster Road Project
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - [On Monday, 27 January] the Democratic Alliance (DA) submitted a letter along with a petition signed by business owners of Koster to the MEC of Public Works and Roads, Lizzy Mokua, requesting her to urgently intervene in the incomplete road project of the R509 in Koster.
The MEC must also supply a comprehensive explanation about the project’s delays and the reasons for its abandonment.
