RUSTENBURG HERALD - SWARTRUGGENS - Tshepang Motseretsere Sepinara (22), an illegal immigrant from Lesotho, appeared before the Swartruggens Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 2 May, for possession of suspected stolen cattle.
He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Wednesday, 21 May.

According to available information, the decrease was owed to weaker international oil prices, and the resilient performance of the Rand.
“Boozy Sundays” now legal in NW
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The introduction of the new North West Liquor Licensing Amendment Act, came into effect on 1 April, replacing the Liquor Act 27 of 1989 (legally ceasing on 31 March).
Under the updated regulations, liquor stores may now operate from 09:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays, and from 08:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and Saturdays.
Supermarkets that sell wine are permitted to trade from 08:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Saturday, and from 09:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays.
Illegal miners appear in court
RUSTENBURG HERALD - MOGWASE - In continuous efforts to address illegal mining and other related offences, a total of 21 accused appeared in the Brits and Mogwase Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday, 24 April, for contravention of the Immigration Act, 2002.
The suspects, with ages ranging from 21 to 41, were apprehended during Vala Umgodi operations executed on Wednesday, 23 and Thursday, 24 April, in Witrandjie village near Sun City as well as Majakaneng village. Out of 21 accused, three were found guilty by the Brits Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of R2 000, wholly suspended.
Police concerned about rape in NW
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In a statement issued by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West, authorities expressed deep concern in regard to the number of rape cases that have been reported across the province.
These incidents have taken place in mostly townships, rural villages and on farms.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police, Major General Patrick Asaneng, has called on all community leaders, social activists, faith-based leaders, and gender and rights groups from across all communities to join hands to address what is clearly "a pandemic afflicting society".
Trio apprehended for business robbery, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - On Wednesday afternoon, 16 April, Rustenburg and Phokeng Public Order Police (POP) were activated after information was received about a blue Hyundai Accent with three occupants allegedly involved in a business robbery in the Ventersdorp area.
The information was operationalised, leading the team to the R30, between Derby and Rustenburg.
Home Affairs undergoing renovation - critical services only
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The public is hereby notified that the Department of Home Affairs will be temporarily closed for renovation purposes - from 22 April until 9 May.
In a communique issued by the Office of the Executive Mayor, it is stated that only the most critical services will be rendered during this time period, from a mobile office in Klopper Street (Department of Home Affairs parking area).
104 Undocumented foreign nationals nabbed
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In another successful operation Vala Umgodi, targeting illegal mining activities and other associated crimes, members of SAPS arrested 104 undocumented foreign nationals and confiscated a variety of equipment.
The perpetrators were nabbed between Thursday, 10 April and Tuesday, 16 April, in the Bojanala Sub-District 1 and 2 (Brits and Rustenburg areas). Of the arrested individuals, four are female, aged between 18 and 58 and all were charged for contravention of Section 49 of the Immigration Act.

Task Team apprehends wanted suspect
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The diligent Rustenburg Trio Task Team, achieved success when they apprehended a 40-year-old wanted suspect on Thursday, 10 April, after a warrant of arrest was issued.
It is alleged that the convict did not abide by his parole conditions after being found guilty of rape committed in October 2012.
Suspect arrested for unlicensed firearm and ammunition
RUSTENBURG HERALD - BOITEKONG - On Monday, 14 April, members of Boitekong SAPS, acting on intelligence, arrested a 40-year-old suspect in Sunrise Park Extension 11 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
A joint operation with Boitekong Crime Prevention led to the search of the suspect’s residence, where an incomplete 9mm pistol, 18 rounds of rifle ammunition, and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition were discovered hidden inside a steel bin.
