RUSTENBURG HERALD - PILANESBERG - A Spanish tourist was trampled to death by an elephant herd in the Pilanesberg National Park just outside Rustenburg on Sunday.
The incident happened while the 43-year-old man was approaching an adult female elephant on foot in an attempt to get a better photograph of the animal.
Arrests made after murder of four-year-old boy
RUSTENBURG HERALD - BOITEKONG - A 31-year-old mother and her 26-year-old boyfriend were arrested last week Thursday, 4 July for the alleged murder of her four-year-old boy.
Reports revealed that, the couple allegedly killed the toddler last year and buried him in a shallow grave in the bushes on the outskirts of Boitekong. Subsequent to the incident, residents of Extension 4, became suspicious when they did not see the child anymore. According to information, the child was last seen by neighbours in July 2023. They started asking questions, but the mother would make up stories.

Death of construction workers still under investigation
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - In a tragic accident that occurred at Keystone Milling on Wednesday, 26 June at approximately 12:00, two construction workers paid with their lives when a wall collapsed onto them as they were working.
According to an employee of Keystone Milling, a maize production business, a private construction company was building a ramp and wall of approximately five meters high, when something that felt and sounded “like an earthquake” rocked the ground. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the wall next to the ramp had collapsed, trapping two of the workers under the rubble.
More than 500 arrested in Operation Shanela - fight against crime continues
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Police in the province, working together with other law enforcement agencies, continue to put suspects behind bars through Operation Shanela. This after 580 suspects were apprehended between Monday, 24 to Sunday, 30 July 2024, for different crimes.
The suspects were arrested for robbery with aggravating cicrumstances, murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and common, dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, possession of drugs, burglary at business and residential premises, driving under the influence of alcohol and many others.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - MAHIKENG - The newly-elected North West Premier, Lazarus Mokgosi, has announced his Members of the Executive Council (MECs) following the National and Provincial Elections on 29 May.
Mokgosi has appointed Madoda Sabatha as the North West MEC for Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, former ANCYL president, Collen Maine as North West MEC for Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation, ANCYL provincial chairperson, Wessels Morweng as North West MEC for Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - This is an alert to all the residents of Rustenburg, regarding a scam targeting ratepayers. Individuals are contacting residents and demanding money to prevent ‘scheduled disconnections’ due to municipal accounts in arrears, further cutting off their electricity supply.
The individual masquerades as an employee of Rustenburg Local Municipality, claiming to be from the electrical unit.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - Police in the province working together with other role players continued with high density operations between Wednesday, 19 and Monday, 24 June 2024, to prevent and combat crime.
Following the operations, 768 suspects were nabbed for various offences.
13-year-old boy murdered by his stepfather
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - A 37-year-old stepfather appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday for the alleged murder of his 13-year-old stepson.
Police were on Friday evening, 21 June 2024, called by a neighbour to the scene in East End, where they found Olebogeng Molebangwe deceased in the house.
